My experience with racism is not a story of neglect and systematic abuse. It’s not about how White America is literally or violently holding me back. It is about ignorance. It’s personal, it’s raw and it’s real. And I’m terrified of sharing it.

Wallowing is the best thing I’ve ever done. It might sound selfish, but that’s only because it is. And it should be.

Finding my bravery is an ongoing, evolving process, which can be difficult, emotional and downright messy. Today, it looks a little like sitting in a coffee shop, interacting with strangers.

“Ugh, I hate my job.” — Everyone? At 28, I’m a newbie. Sure, I have a Master’s degree and more than five years’ professional experience under my belt, but for the most part, it’s blatantly obvious I don’t really know what I’m doing. Yet, since graduating into the world of supposedly responsible decision-making, too often […]

It’s shocking, I know. That last post I wrote about starting the Fitness Challenge, well, that’s all it was. A start. I mean, I guess it still had an end… because I kind of just stopped doing it. Maybe I should feel more embarrassed or weak or defeated, but I really don’t. Because here’s the […]

I’m starting a 30-day fitness challenge. The thing is, I’m great when it comes to generating ideas, but not so much when it comes to their execution.

It’s been one of those days, I guess. You know what I mean, the kind that starts out beautiful and full of promise, only to end in the tragic monotony of everything you’ve ever known. A cascade of drudgery. But in the midst of it all, you crossed my mind. Suddenly and inexplicably. Inescapably. No […]

Last night was awesome. I got to sit in a quiet neighborhood restaurant, people-watching passersby and fellow diners, while finally finding some inspiration to write. Then, a drugged-up junkie came bursting into the restaurant, ranting and raving about a missing cell phone. The manager literally had to shove her outside as she threatened him and […]
